Kirk Miller was born in Selma, Alabama in the early ‘50s. He cannot remember when drawing and painting were not part of his life. By age twelve he and his family moved to Sydney, Australia where each year he took his school’s first place award in art. At age eighteen, after a two year stint as an apprentice golf pro, he realized that he could paint better than he could putt, and returned to the US and art school. All through this period, Kirk was able to receive commissions from magazines and was asked to execute a Civil War mural for the Selma Historic Society.
He was fortunate to attend and graduate from Troy University, where he worked and studied under famed New York illustrator and portrait painter, Woody Ishmael. After earning two degrees at Troy he attended graduate school at the Instituto de Allende, San Miguel, Mexico. After leaving school he became a freelance illustrator for advertising and newspaper clients. He worked for and later became Art Director for a major engraving and wall decor firm in Atlanta, Georgia.

Although he achieved much, it was evident that his future lay in California. There were many offers to work as an animator, including Disney Studios, however he choose to seek out free-lance and gallery assignments. As the years progressed, Kirk was offered many teaching, demonstrating and workshop assignments. It was over this period that Kirk wrote two art instruction books for Foster Publications. These in conjunction with portraiture and murals allowed him to truly perfect his skills.
Kirk Miller is recognized as a premier painter of portraits and figure. Governors, University Presidents, Pulitzer Prize winning authors, industrialist, hall of fame athletes, playboy models and celebrities have all sought out his talents. His painting can be found in collections across America and as far away as Korea and Australia.

Today he is primarily concerned with producing series of art depicting musicians, dancers and figures in limited editions. Kirk feels that now is the greatest time to be an artist. The artist can bring his art directly to the public and even control the quality of the publishing of his images. He is now heavily involved in producing various series of art work and is focused on reaching the public through a network of galleries throughout America and Europe.
